In the Metaverse, Serie A will host the first-ever live football broadcast
The Serie A football league in Italy became the first to broadcast a live football match in the metaverse on Sunday. At this historic event, supporters were treated to a thrilling game between AC Milan and Fiorentina, in which the former won 1-0 and so reached the league’s pinnacle. This match was fitting for the occasion.
Blockchain technology company ConsenSys and The Nemesis, a gaming platform, collaborated to produce the first-of-its-kind event on the blockchain. The Nemesis metaverse’s Serie A room, where the match took place, is used for a variety of live events like concerts and parties.
For this event, only fans from Africa and the Middle East (i.e. the MENA region) were allowed to acquire admission to the virtual watching using NFT tickets, which were exclusively available through the metaverse’s in-built inclusiveness. Spectators may engage with each other and get real-time stats in the virtual room, much like they would if they were watching sports in a real-world setting.
“We believe that the frontier of technological innovation is vitally important for a modern league,” said Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo.
