In a new NFT drop, an NBA top shot pays tribute to Magic Johnson
NBA Top Shot is making an NFT collection based on Earvin “Magic” Johnson to honor him as one of the best point guards of all time. By doing this, the most important and historic plays of the five-time NBA champion, three-time MVP of the NBA Finals, three-time MVP of the NBA, and twelve-time NBA All-Star will be written into the blockchain forever.
The collection is called “The Anthology: Magic Johnson,” and it will be available on the NBA Top Shot platform on June 7. Each of the 1,600 NFT packs will cost $399. There will be 1 Moment NFT from either the Rare or Legendary tiers in each pack. The Rare tier NFTs show Johnson’s “Platter Pass” and “Game Winner vs. Celtics” from the 1987-88 season, while the Legendary tier NFTs show his “Rookie Start at Center in the Finals” from the 1979-80 season and his “Around the Body Pass” from 1984-85.
Even though there seem to be a lot of packs up for grabs, 1,200 of them will be airdropped to users with a Top Shot score of at least 150,000, putting them in a “priority queue.” This means that only 400 packs will be free for anyone to get in the “general queue” (which does not require an NBA Top Shot score to be purchased).
Johnson posted on Twitter about how excited he was for the drop: “I’m really excited to work with @nbatopshot to release my first NFTs and share some of my favorite moments from my career with fans everywhere. Only a few of my favorite plays from my career will be shown to the public.”
