Chess is making its way into the metaverse thanks to Animoca Brands’ new relationship with Play Magnus Group (PMG). The industry behemoth will use its subsidiary Lympo and The Sandbox to incorporate the popular board game into web3 ongoings across numerous channels.

Inspired by the GOAT of chess, Magnus Carlsen, PMG is a well-established firm within the chess market, with millions of players and students already enjoying its play and instructional services. The new agreement will extend the platform’s reach into the infinite domain of the metaverse, where elite gamers will also have access to rich revenue opportunities.

Lympo will play a crucial part in launching PMG’s foray into the metaverse by creating a one-of-a-kind NFT collection, a blockchain-inspired chess game, and social tokens to accompany the future Champions Chess Tour. In addition, the business will develop custom-designed, animated NFT collections featuring world-class chess players like Carlsen, Anish Giri, and Hans Niemann.

Sandbox players should also prepare their chess pieces, as the popular platform will host PMG’s next virtual Champion Chess Tour.
